A webinar on the emerging nano technology and its application was organized by Pushpa Gujral Science City on 07.08.2020. About 170 participants comprising of students, research scholars, teachers and general public attended the webinar.
Professor Ashok K Ganguli an eminent scientist in the field of nanotechnology from Department of Chemistry at IIT-Delhi delivered a talk on how nanotechnology is creating many new materials and devices with a vast range of applications in areas ranging from Agriculture, Medicine to Energy and Environment. While addressing the participants he said that Scientists today are designing self–cleaning glasses, wrinkle–free textiles, optical encoders, water purifying agents etc using Nano components. Further he also informed that Nano features and properties can be observed around us in living and non-living objects. There is nano science all around us whether we see colour of butterflies, the ability of lizards to climb on walls or amazing technologies.
At this occasion, , Dr. Neelima Jerath, Director General, PGSC, said that Nanotechnology provides us with the tools to work at the molecular or cell level. It may enable us to create better materials and make advances in new areas of science. Further, Nano-technological products, processes and applications are expected to contribute significantly to environmental and climate protection by saving raw materials, energy and water as well as by reducing greenhouse gases and hazardous wastes. Usage of nano materials, therefore, promises environmental benefits and sustainability effects.
The webinar was highly appreciated by the attendees.
