State level Children Science Congress

The State Level Children Science Congress (CSC)-2020 was organized virtually in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, Chandigarh. 112 projects adjudged best at district level presented their findings on the focal theme of ‘Science for Sustainable Living’. Children's Science Congress is a nationwide Science Communication programme of National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology, GoI, which started in the year 1993. Students are motivated to undertake research projects and present their findings in the school in the first instance. Projects finalized at the school level are presented at the District level competition where various schools participate and compete for State level selection. Three (3) winning projects from Junior Group (10-13 years) and 3 winners from Senior Group from every district participated at the State level competition from where a total of 16 projects are selected to represent the state for the National Level Children Congress. The 28th state level CSC was inaugurated by Sh. Charandeep Singh, Joint Secretary, Science, Technology & Environment, Punjab. He stressed that Children Science Congress program provides an effective medium of fostering scientific temper in students of 10-17 years of age through experimentation and demonstration. Learning of science in this manner greatly helps to understand scientific concepts. Presiding over the event, Dr. Jatinder Kaur Arora, Executive Director, PSCST shared that the Children Science Congress is National Flagship Program developed around 5 key pillars of ‘Education for Sustainable Development’ viz. Learning to know, Learning to do, Learning to live together, Learning to transform one’s own self and Learning to transform the Society.  She also shared that theme of this year’s CSC is ‘Science for Sustainable Living’. She further shared that through this platform, several child-scientists and science teachers have risen to won laurels at National level and as well as got opportunities for international exposure. Dr. Neelima Jerath, Director General, PGSC called upon the participating students to use this forum to come up with scientific projects which can help in solving the societal problems and also urged them to visit Science City.

This year National Level Children Science Congress could not be organized due to COVID 19 pandemic.
