Pushpa Gujral Science City celebrated National Science Day jointly with Punjab State Council for Science & Technology Chandigarh. The theme of this year’s celebration was ‘Global Science for Global Wellbeing’ which indicated the country’s emerging global role and rising visibility in the international arena. Around 250 students of class 7 to 9 from different schools of Punjab participated in the event.
Dr. Neelima Jerath, Director General, Science City in her introductory remarks said that National Science Day is celebrated on February 28 every year to mark the discovery of the Raman effect by Indian Physicist Sir C V Raman. Science and Technology drive every nation’s progress and prosperity, as well as is an essential tool to meet the challenges related with sustainable development. She called upon the teaching community to motivate students to learn and apply scientific concepts in their daily life so as to ignite their interest in research and innovation.
Dr. Himesh Sharma, Advisor to Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Development was the expert speaker at this occasion. He delivered a special talk on “Role of Science in Entrepreneurship education“. Interacting with students, he said that entrepreneurship education aids students from all socio economic backgrounds to think outside the box and nurture unconventional talents and skills. A good entrepreneur utilizes the scientific method to start their own Ventures. Entrepreneurship education can shape students mind set, attitudes and behavior to become a true entrepreneur that could create job opportunities, he added.
A declamation competition on role of science for global wellbeing was also organized for school students on this occasion. The first prize was won by Suchi from K.V CRPF Sari Khas second prize was bagged by Janisha Bhatia from St.Joseph convent School Jalandhar whereas Vanshdeep from DIPS Maksoodan Jalandhar got the third prize.
